Recovery Coach

REPORTS TO:           Clinical Supervisor

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Under general direction, the Recovery Coach is responsible for serving as support, mentor, advocate, and life coach to individuals with a substance use disorder.  This includes developing person centered recovery goals that enable individuals to live, learn, socialize, work and thrive in the community. The Recovery Coach will help support all OASAS program Tenants who has completed or currently in Substance abuse treatment. The incumbent will play a large role in creating a seamless transition between BTC, detoxification services, the MART program and community based provider partners. Intensity of service is determined by level of care provided. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct active outreach efforts to encourage attendance and participation in recovery-oriented, self-help and pro-social groups. Includes providing drug-free socialization activities to build a safe network and community in which individual development with respect to drug-free socialization is fostered.
  • Provides routine recovery check-ups at the Recovery Center in order to maintain regular contact with service recipient.
  • Escorts client to referral sources as well as accompanying them to local NA/AA meetings, the SV Recovery Club and other recovery oriented care services.
  • Develops linkages and contacts with recovery support systems within client’s home neighborhood.
  • Handles scheduling, facility coordination (securing meeting space, etc.), note taking, meeting set-up/breakdown for all recovery groups and pro-social sober activities, etc.
  • Functions as a liaison/advocate to clients’ families and/or other agencies as needed.
  • Provides outreach/education/prevention services to the local community, schools, groups, and agencies as necessary and as approved by management staff.
  • Performs other duties as requested.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Graduate or GED
  2. At least two years of experience providing peer recovery support to individuals
  3. In recovery for a minimum of two years
  4. Certified Recovery Coach (CARC)    

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Strong interpersonal skills
  2. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule
  3. Positive can-do attitude; high energy; productive, proactive and reliable
  4. Willing to be an active participant in all required Peer Recovery Coaching/Facilitation
  5. Experience with evidence-based practices preferred
  6. Basic keyboard skills and computer literacy (Windows-based environment and Microsoft Office knowledge preferred)
  7. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
  8. Expected to travel to reach service recipients as needed.
