Confidential Investigator


Administrative Headquarters, Briarwood, NY

Reports To:

Chief of Staff

 Major Functions:

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Confidential Investigator is responsible for the performance of highly confidential and sensitive investigations into allegations including, but not limited to, fraud, waste, abuse and neglect. The Confidential Investigator will be expected to: conduct victim, witness, and subject interviews; interact with governing agency representatives; author comprehensive reports of their findings; and testify when necessary. The Confidential Investigator will work collaboratively with Human Resources and Compliance, Quality Improvement and Training Departments, to proactively address workplace issues. The successful Confidential Investigator candidate will be conscientious, self-motivated, and a creative thinker; who is able to perform effectively both independently and as part of a team.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads or conducts confidential compliant and service quality investigations and monitors related follow-up activities.

  • Conducts interviews of all relevant parties to a complaint.

  • Creates processes for the investigations life cycle to meet delivery timelines.

  • Analyzes complaints, develops investigative plans, conducts fact-finding, reviews documentation, conducts related research, prepares relevant correspondence, and submits confidential reports of the investigative findings for supervisory review and approval.

  • Documents investigative activities and dispositions.

  • Maintains an understanding of current regulations related to incident management and quality improvement (including but not limited to those governed by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Department of Health, Office of Mental Health). Maintains a thorough understanding of the New York State Justice Center.

  • Makes recommendations as to the appropriate action to be taken prior to and following an investigation.

  • Conducts data analyses to identify trends and/or patterns.

  • Works collaboratively with various committees to identify effective corrective and preventative actions across disciplines at the direction of the Chief of Staff.

  • Assists in conducting root cause analysis.

  • Maintains an impartial and professional attitude while conducting investigations while maintaining a high level of integrity.

  • Performs additional duties as requested.



  • Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration,Social Sciences, Psychology, or related field, graduate degree preferred.

  • Three years’ experience in an industry or governmental agency in the field of investigation, compliance, or incident management.

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to ʺ1ʺ, or ʺ2ʺ above.

  • Individual must possess strong interpersonal and writing skills; with an ability to work under a deadline.

  • Must have the ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy.

  • Ideal canidate must be capable of exercising independent judgment and discretion while utilizing agency policies and protocols to determine appropriate action.
