Samaritan Daytop Village, NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports Celebrate New Staten Island Integrated Opioid Treatment Program

Program adds to treatment options, and focuses on wellness, to help people in recovery

(STATEN ISLAND, NY - November 8, 2024) - Samaritan Daytop Village and NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, November 8, 2024, for the Integrated Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) at the Staten Island Comprehensive Outpatient Program. The addition of OTP services provides a critical new resource to support hundreds of Staten Island residents experiencing substance use disorder.

OASAS Commissioner Chinazo Cunningham said, “OASAS is proud to partner with Samaritan Daytop Village to open this new facility that will expand access to medication for addiction treatment. This comprehensive outpatient program will ensure residents of Staten Island have more opportunities to access addiction and mental health services in one central location.”

Staten Island residents continue to struggle with substance use disorder. There were 155 overdoses in 2023. The expanded services of the 1,400-square-foot Staten Island Integrated Opioid Treatment Program provide additional paths to recovery and well-being. The facility also supports individuals with mental health issues, housing, jobs, and overall wellness services.

"With the opening of the Integrated Opioid Treatment Program, we now offer Staten Island residents even more comprehensive options for recovery. For those who need it, we can provide not just medication-assisted treatment but also access to all the services people need to holistically improve their lives," said Mitchell Netburn, President and CEO of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Samaritan Daytop Village has been successfully supporting people in recovery for more than 60 years. Their model is based on the recognition that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. To that end, Samaritan offers a range of settings for support, including community-based outpatient and residential facilities, and different types of treatment, including individual and group counseling, and medication. Methadone, which is now being offered at the Staten Island clinic, plays a key role in the successful recovery of many patients.

Staten Island Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment Program, which has been supporting Staten Island residents for over five decades, is a fully integrated Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The program provides evidence-based, trauma-informed care designed to support individuals on their path to recovery from opioid use disorder and other substance use challenges.

The OTP offers a full continuum of care, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, coupled with individual and group counseling. Samaritan Daytop Village's approach is rooted in harm reduction and recovery-oriented practices, fostering a safe and supportive environment for healing.

The Staten Island clinic also provides wellness services including yoga classes, group activities, and, soon, exercise classes. Healthy snacks are also available all day long.
