The Richard Pruss Wellness Center is open to clients in the Bronx!

Samaritan Daytop Village’s first Wellness Center is located at 510 Courtlandt Avenue, on the corner of E. 148th St. and Courtlandt Ave. The newly constructed six-floor building houses six existing Samaritan Daytop Village programs, the agency’s Admissions Center, and the soon-to-open Samaritan Daytop Health, a new primary healthcare clinic.

The programs at the Wellness Center work individually and together to provide integrative services to the community. Specialties include behavioral, mental, and primary health as well as recovery services and care management. Patients can take advantage of individual programs and be referred to other services on site.

Mitchell Netburn, President & CEO of Samaritan Daytop Village, said, “The Richard Pruss Wellness Center will be a transformative addition to the neighborhood. Individuals and families can now visit one location to meet numerous behavioral, mental, and health needs. As a totally inclusive health and wellness offering, the Center will be an oasis to a long-underserved community.”

Programs in the Community

The Bronx-based Samaritan Daytop Village programs that have moved into the building include:

Both Independence and New Beginnings are Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics. The SAMHSA-recognized certification is given to high-quality treatment programs offering comprehensive substance use and mental health services.

Additionally, as part of the move, the former Willis Avenue Opioid Treatment Program has changed its name to the Mott Haven Opioid Treatment Program. Patients can access that program from the entrance located at 362 E. 148th Street.

Samaritan Daytop Village has also moved its Admissions specialists to the building. The new Admissions Center is located at a separate entryway at 362 E. 148th Street. Admissions is the starting point for all clients entering our Residential and Outpatient Treatment Programs. To talk with an Admissions Counselor, call (855) 322-4357 (HELP).

Samaritan Daytop Village is planning to open its new primary care clinic later this year on the building's sixth floor.

About Richard Pruss

The Center is named in honor of the late Richard Pruss, President Emeritus, and former Board Chair of Samaritan Daytop Village, who passed away in 2018. Pruss spent his entire career with the agency – starting as a volunteer and rising to take the reins as the agency’s first CEO.

His pioneering work helped generations of New Yorkers confront their addiction and find the road to recovery. Among his many accomplishments was the integration of primary healthcare services during treatment for substance use disorder. The agency was among the first providers to offer medical care to behavioral health clients.

Mitchell Netburn, President & CEO of Samaritan Daytop Village, stated, “The Center is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Richard Pruss, a visionary and fierce advocate for people in recovery, who dedicated his career and life’s work to the behavioral health field.”
